Where to start

A planned gift can be as simple as including the Southington Land Conservation Trust in your will or naming the organization as a beneficiary of an insurance policy, retirement plan, or another investment asset. Such gifts require no current transfer of ownership and cost nothing during your lifetime, while possibly producing significant tax benefits when the future transfer is made.

If you’re considering naming SLCT in your will, here is some sample language you can use whether you are having an attorney draft your will or using an online service.

When leaving a specific gift amount:

I give, devise, and bequeath to Southington Land Conservation Trust, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization with an office in Southington, Connecticut, the sum of $____________ (or describe any real or personal property), to be used for its general purposes.

When leaving all or a part of the balance of your estate after debts and expenses:

I give, devise, and bequeath to Southington Land Conservation Trust, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization with offices in Southington, Connecticut, all (or ____%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for its general purposes.

I give (specific amount, percent or residue) to the Southington Land Conservation Trust, Inc. EIN: 23-7285599, having its principal offices at 79 N. Main Street, Southington, CT 06489, for its general purposes.

We encourage you to share your plans with us. This helps us to plan for the organization’s future and answer any questions you may have.
